Without history to teach us how hard it is, how ferociously fate can conspire against change, one is likely to settle for half-truths and half-dreams.
Though the rise of USA democracy and its capitalistic engine injected formerly unimaginable hope into humanity's story, it pays to consult history for a sense of how far we can fall and how fast.
